Virtualisation has become a pillar for implementing greater flexibility, delivering better utilization rates, faster integration of new servers and services and higher availability whilst striving to reduce CAPEX and OPEX costs. In some countries, virtualisation has already become the standard platform for deploying new workloads. As virtualisation has matured and become more pervasive in companies, the effective management of virtual as well as integrated virtual and physical environments will be the focus for the next phase in virtualisation initiatives.
Thomas Meyer joined IDC in January 1999 and is currently responsible for the EMEA Systems and Infrastructure Solutions Group, covering enterprise and client environments, security issues, virtualisation, business continuity and Green IT initiatives.
Meyer speaks frequently at IDC, industry, and customer events such as CeBIT and the Mobile Commerce Conference. He often contributes to articles in publications across Europe, including the Wall Street Journal, Die Zeit, Focus, Le Monde Informatique, and IT Week, and has also appeared on the BBC World Business Report and Breakfast Business Update.
Before joining IDC, Meyer worked as an IT media analyst. He holds
degrees from the University of London in Economics and German and an MA with a focus on European management concepts. |
